Rock am Ring 2009 Lineup Story — New Additions & British Bands

A look back at how the Rock am Ring 2009 lineup grew, with huge British acts and more than 70 new additions.

Compare with the 2008 lineup, the full 2009 lineup, or the 2010 edition.

Rock am Ring 2009 welcomed a strong wave of British talent. Ska icons Madness joined the bill alongside Razorlight, plus fresh confirmations straight from organisers as over 100,000 tickets were sold across Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.

New additions included Razorlight, Machine Head, Guano Apes, Madness, Phoenix, and Chris Cornell, adding even more weight to a lineup that already featured giants like Slipknot, Placebo, The Killers, and The Prodigy.

The 2009 lineup was young, fresh, and loaded with top global acts alongside an exciting new generation of bands.

The twin-site festival took place on 5–7 June 2009 across the Nürburgring and Nürnberg venues.

Fans were treated to everything from indie and alt-rock (Placebo, Billy Talent, Bloc Party, The Kooks) to harder and darker sounds (Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Machine Head). Local German heroes — including Jan Delay & Disko No. 1, MIA., Selig, and Guano Apes — were proudly represented too.

With more than 100 hours of modern rock across three stages, Rock am Ring 2009 delivered one of its most diverse and exciting bills ever.
